Once again this is coming from a train (so it's message IDs again: Mutt
users may be happy with this, possibly) although this time I'm with other
(void)ers, so this may even be peer reviewed first. Of course it's terribly
late, more so as the train got stuck between Wakefield and Doncaster. Sigh,
with apologies.
Ashley Pomeroy's wonderful summary prompted Todd Larason to ask lots of
questions and wanted a credit; he succeded in resurrecting a thread on
sandwiches; The Texan (hereafter, Rob) uses grape jam, not jelly, and Chris
Heathcote has persuaded Benjy's to make him peanut butter and jam bagels.

Ashley's summary also prompted talk, on, well, summaries. Chris Devers
suggested everyone should try writing one; Matt Jones pointed out everyone
was free to write one, and I chipped in my tuppence on the fact that, to be
the nominal summary, you should volunteer in advance, since, as Ashley
pointed out, it's better writing these things through the week. (Oops.) (And
it turns out he said this before any of the other posts were made.)

In response to Rob's posting of a URL about a previously unexplored
civilation and its ruins in Asia, Todd again asked lots of questions [0],
one about lutefisk, which was transformed by Simon Kinahan into a question
of how soom foods get invented, and we once again entered That Vegetarian
Debate after Rob described his taunting veal trick. (Anyway, it probably
wasn't even lutefisk Todd meant, as Magnus Bodin pointed out.)

Robert Shiels put a new (numerical) twist on the debate by setting up a
scale of meateatingness, and pointing out the safest moral positions at
either end. Rob quickly defined himself on the scale, and qualified his
taunting, but John Melesky queried the idea of it being a linear
progression, as did Dave Cross, for slightly different reasons, while Rick
Hawkins added points on factory farming.

One of the other big threads (although more from large posts than lots of
them) was spurred by Stuart Wyatt asking what had happened to the Internet.
Chris Heathcote mentioned architects and eBay, Simon Wistow posted
ramblingly at length on the past and future, Steve Mynott reckoned the best
was yet to come, Simon Batistoni revisited the hinternet, celia talked about
information retrieval and Ashley did my job for me.

There was an offshoot talking about weblogs as a source of community, peer
review vs personal filtering and a question on what proportion of posters vs
lurkers to mailing lists like (void) was; Steve Mynott was pretty interested
in this stuff, as was Simon Batistoni, while Rob asked more questions and
wondered how to credit people.

In the random thread mode, Ashley's Procmail thread turned into a discussion
on Jane Wiedlin of the Go-Gos, where Mike Jarvis, Steve Mynott and Ashley
swapped pop trivia, news on an infamous video but definitely didn't search
for it on P2P services; a thread on motorways developed after Ashley posted
links to a site about roads, and Robin and I transport geeked, and Lee
Maguire got involved with explaining Dukakis.
