Comin' atcha from the exciting new location of Coach C on the London-Norwich
'express'. Hence, if I can't be bothered finding URLs in the morning when I
actually post this, it might just end up being sent out with message IDs
instead. If anyone else wants to convert these to URLs feel free.

This week started with the theme of memes, although celia gave this short
shrift, as did Arp with a nice tangent. Clive Murray tried to launch the
idea of a memu, which failed completely to take off. Alex Robinson came up
with 'memeingful' and 'memestream'.

The innocuous Complete Shakespeare subject concealed an entire weeks worth
of posts, starting with Anders Olausson's Swedish takeover plans and Simon
Batistoni's Icke-esque conspiracy. An offhand observation on Finnish
prompted the shift (by Simon Wistow) into linguistics, to be covered later.
Crossing threads, David Cantrell's letter of notice deserves a mention just
cos it's funny, as does Arp's genie defence system. Clive made explicit the
Icke connection.

The London Walk prompted a simple response (we're tired), and, again, a
thread to fill a week. Andy and celia posted text, Robin and I posted
pictures and Wistow photoshopped. Then it all got morphed into a discussion
of mobile phones...

Meanwhile, Chris Devers followed up on CD encoding by suggesting using a
6-disc changer and Todd Larason pointed out the digital-analogue steps this
would add. Robert Shiels started encoding the conventional way.

Devers [1] wrote about linguistic maps, case and mood, and Aaron Crane found
his speciality subject, weighing in on with clarifications, corrections,
humour and harmony. Aaron talked about Sanskrit and Jo weighed in on zero.
Simon Kinahan attempted to explain Indian in Guyana, and Crane posted morre
about protolanguages.

Wistow really got the mobile phone thread going with his analysis of Nokias
and others. Chris Heathcote [2] mentioned the smallness of phones these
days. Duncan Bates quibbled with interface decisions. David Cantrell queried
consumer electronic reliability. IR was discussed- bizarrely this seems to
be unavailable in the US.

In offshoots of mobiles, Batistoni took on the marketroids and Wistow moved
things into the human realm, while Todd picked up on the logic content and
Clive and celia came up with their own takes on crashing.

Devers found new words in odd usage, leading to a discussion on jargon, and
the linguistics thread took on elements of animal psychology too. Niklas
revived the Swedish takeover. Vicky McDonnell asked about tones, and Niklas
and Crane clarified again, in depth.

A discussion on advertising turned into one on brands. Patrik Nordebo found
bad jeans, Matt Jones avoids brands with bad advertising, Dave Cross
suffered moral dilemmas with bad ads, Arp questioned early TV (Todd
answered) and Wistow boycotts globalising brands. Replicant posted ethical
links.

Also: porn legislation, Bert Milton, consluting, co-workers fashion sense,
exhibitless art, indie, biocalendars, id3 tags (cont), talking to phones
[3], billing and avertising, CD/DVD speeds, intangible work requests, date
movies, support people, work wants, connects, credit/debit cards and limits
and pulling pants. But you have to find those for yourself.

Links o' the week: so many to choose from too. Wistow, erm, Mison, Cross
Pomeroy and Devers get the gongs.

[0] Just so I can get the year right.
[1] Too many of you share fornames, so unless you complain, I'll have to use
surnames after I've mentioned you once. Sorry.
[2] Right this time I hope.
[3] Oops, this one should probably have got the URL treatment.
