Here we are again. Late again too, but hopefully this just brightens up
your weekend/ Monday morning. Something like that.

The UKNM-crossover thread contined from last week, with Todd Larason
and Chris Heathcode discussing the conspiracy theory of marketing and
coupons, and Celia retorting to Arp's point that the ecommerce boom got
a lot of us where we are today; as did Matt Jones, with slightly more
venom. Mike Moran leapt through advertising to CDs and LSD in breakfast
cereal.

Harl mentioned the new novel Thinks... which became thread of the week
by a large margin. Mike Moran was unconvinced by the original premise,
but Dave Cross was excited by a new novel, and mentioned the problems
of being a fan of unprolific authors, as opposed to, say, Terry
Pratchett, whose prolificness was dissected by a bored Simon Wistow.
Arp's reading habits started a meandering post.

Dave Cross, replying to Aaron, moved the thread into dead authors and
sci-fi, and asked for reccomendations. Celia passed on a book she was
reading by Russell Hoban, which led Todd to discuss phonetic books
generally, as he'd already written one. Arp tied off this one too.

Meanwhile on the sci-fi portion of this thread, Matt lambasted the
Asimovian doubters and praised Iain M Banks, which was explained by
respondents as disliking plot at the expense of character development.
Arp and Replicant shifted to films, by talking about the 60s new wave,
drugs and Philip K Dick.

Robert Shiels ran with a mention of Heinlein's books and also mentioned
the Guardian's digested reads, which Robin supplied a URL of. This led
to the argument of the week, where Daynal, Dave Cross and others argued
about misogony, dating of attiudes, and generated far too many URLs to
put in here. Sorry.

Arp talked about Maclean, Dr Who and childrens books; Simon responded
with memory and exams; Alex Robinson spewed info into the (void) aobut
other adventure novelists.

It feels like it's been a busy week, and I've only scratched the
surface of Thinks... let alone the pants, piccies, parmesan dogshit,
potential confusion of keys and cards, problems of scientific accuracy
in scifi, page building on the Web, practical fusion, passing on
handedness, positions (sexual) and religion or any other things that
have been going on. But then, now you know where the archives are,
right?
